Please note: Although we still value active parent involvement at Franklin Community Preschool, we are no longer a “cooperative” preschool.
For over 60 years, Franklin Community Preschool (FCP) has been serving families living in many surrounding communities. Our preschool is fully licensed through the State of Michigan. FCP is affiliated with Franklin Community Church and is a member of the Greater Detroit Council of Nursery Cooperatives. The school is located in Franklin Community Church, which is in the heart of the Historic Village of Franklin, “the town that time forgot.” This small town lends itself to a quality introduction to school. The playground, gazebo, ball fields, library, cider mill, fire station, police station and post office are all within walking distance. This sense of community is a founding principle of FCP. We offer a safe, loving, nurturing environment with a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our classes are small, which allows us to provide the extra attention that young children need to flourish in the classroom. Our teachers are highly qualified and experienced. Their caring, friendly demeanor helps our FCP children become comfortable quickly and enjoy coming to school.
Our mission is to provide an engaging, balanced early childhood program that nurtures and encourages children to reach their greatest potential. Franklin Community Preschool is dedicated to equipping students with the foundation they need for intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.
FCP employs the teaching practices and strategies of Creative Curriculum™ . It is highly acclaimed and is regarded by early childhood professionals as a developmentally appropriate and effective early childhood curriculum. FCP’s educational philosophy is based on the concept that young children learn best by doing. Authentic learning experiences require active thinking, playing, discovering, experimenting, finding out how things work and learning about the world we live in. Our dedicated teaching staff provides a variety of daily activities that help children become confident and competent learners. Play provides the foundation for academic or “school” learning. Basic readiness skills are integrated into learning themes as well as small and large group activities. The most important goal of FCP’s early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. Our teachers encourage children to develop good habits and attitudes, developing a positive sense of self, which can make a difference throughout their lives. Our curriculum identifies goals in all areas of development – social, emotional, cognitive and physical. The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the learning environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and scaffold learning, are all designed to accomplish our goals and give your child a successful start in school.
Our teachers are highly qualified professionals with advanced degrees and a wealth of experience. All teachers and aides are members of the GDCNC Teacher’s Association, where our Director also serves on the board. Our seasoned staff maintains its love for education and training by attending continuing education classes and pursing ways to educate parents and the community. They are truly enthusiastic, creative and nurturing individuals.
Research shows that the early years of childhood are vital to building a strong foundation in learning. Preschool-aged children are wonderfully capable and willing learners. In response, we have incorporated Science and Spanish enrichment opportunities, which are included in the curriculum for our 3s, 4s and 5s. Each program is taught by professionals experienced in early childhood education.
